Semaphore in Fordyce, AR (1-29-00)

First off, I'd like to congratulate you on a fantastic site! I'm glad to
see someone is working to preserve these fascinating articles of railroad
history. Secondly, I would like to bring to your attention a semaphore that I
think you may be unaware of. In Fordyce, AR, there is an old Chicago, Rock
Island & Pacific semaphore which once protected the crossing with the St. Louis
Southwestern's (SSW) line from Memphis to Texarkana and beyond. The
Fordyce & Princeton Railroad, owned by Georgia - Pacific Corporation,
currently operates this former CRIP line to Crossett, AR (location of a
very large forest-products complex). I worked as an intern with the
Georgia - Pacific Shortline Railroad Group, and was told the semaphore
still functions as designed. It's located near the old CRIP depot.

Joseph gives special thanks to Joseph A. Elliot of Knoxville, TN
for sharing this information with us.
